Couch Session: Top 10 Actors Under 30

It seems, lately, more and more young actors are getting their chances to show their ability on the big screen and prove their worth. More often, you're seeing them coming out and finally having their huge breakout roles as the younger generation starts making its mark on the film industry and Hollywood. In that spirit, today we choose our top 10 young actors. Those that will prove to be the most valuable to film in the coming years and prove to possibly be the next generation of stars in Hollywood.

10. Jesse Eisenberg

Age: 27

Most Notable Role: The Squid and the Whale

To me, Jesse Eisenberg has everything that makes Michael Cera good...then so much more. I first took notice of Eisenberg in comedies Adventureland and Zombieland. He plays that young, likable, awkward role so well (much like Cera). With nice comedic timing and the ability to provide a varying nuance to his "awkward young guy" roles, he manages to keep it fresh each time and brings a certain charm and appeal with him. He has all but locked down the king of lovably nerdy status. Even more so after turning in a possibly Oscar-worthy performance in The Social Network. And he manages to do this while still providing a charm and remaining endearing on screen. As a kid you just can't help but like, I see a very successful future for Eisenberg. He could arguably be the one with the most hidden potential in this list, as Eisenberg reminds me of a young Tom Hanks.

9. Freddie Highmore

Age: 18

Most Notable Role: Finding Neverland

Freddie Highmore may not have the longest resume, but he definitely has some very good performances and big roles already under his belt at such a young age. Finding Neverland proved to be a breakout for him and he turned in a good performance. For me, however, his most shining moment came in August Rush as a musical prodigy trying to find his parents. This was such a mesmerizing and endearing performance that you couldn't help but love the kid as an actor afterward. He has such a pure and innocent demeanor to him, that he instantly draws you in and elicits a sense of compassion from viewers. Again, he doesn't have the longest of resumes, however I see huge things for this kid ahead. It should be quite a treat watching him mature as an actor over the coming years.

8. Paul Dano

Age: 26

Most Notable Role: There Will Be Blood

Paul Dano impressed me from the moment I saw him in Little Miss Sunshine. Showing such an outstanding performance without even talking most of the film he epitomized the phrase the silence can be golden. From his first major movie he has been receiving awards and nominations, as he turned in a very well received performance in L.I.E. Since then, he has time and time again been nominated and has received awards. He even received a BAFTA nomination for his work in There Will Be Blood. From his ability to play a likable nerd in The Girl Next Door to turning in a magnificent and eerie performance in There Will Be Blood. Not many actors can hold their ground against legendary Daniel Day-Lewis. However, Dano has proven he definitely can...twice. I see Dano having a very fruitful career ahead of him. Turning in performances that are mature beyond his years, he has all the skill to be one of the best. He may never (hopefully) become one of those Hollywood blockbuster actors. However, I feel he could be a real staple to the independent scene. He has the ability to undoubtedly become a solid, respectable thespian really shining in his work much like Day-Lewis himself.

7. Jamie Bell

Age: 24

Most Notable Role: Billy Elliot

Jamie Bell is one of the more consistent young actors around today. There's a lot to be said for a guy who wins a BAFTA Best Actor Award in his very first movie (Billy Elliot). On top of that, he did it at the young age of 14. And he beat out Tom Hanks and Russell Crowe to do so. Since then he has remained a reliable actor, although doing mostly supporting work. However, even in this realm he continues to shine in his own way, even standing out stealing the scenes in Jumper for which Hayden Christensen was supposed to be the lead. In his short time, he has gained the respect of many big named directors. Having worked already with Peter Jackson (King Kong) and Clint Eastwood (Flags of Our Fathers). He is now set to take the lead role in Spielberg's The Adventures of Tintin. He'll be working again with Daniel Craig in Tintin. He worked with Craig previously in Defiance: another film where he turned in a solid supporting role. While not stealing the show, he did still manage to hang in there with some very fine actors and kept from being completely upstaged. If he can manage to get out the shadow of support work, I think we could see some very good things from Bell, a la Billy Elliot.

6. Shia LaBeouf

Age: 24

Most Notable Role: Transformers

Shia Labeouf is probably the one that most disappoints me in this list. However, I don't mean that as bad as it may sound (after all, he still does make my list). Shia has shown promise since the beginning. He seems to have it all to truly become a poster boy for Hollywood. Therein might lie his "flaw". He's always been able to turn in a charming performance and fits that role of down-to-earth/boy-next-door role so ideally. With great performances in both A Guide to Your Saints and The Greatest Game Ever Played, Shia has shown that he is indeed a very capable actor. Even in roles like I, Robot and Constantine he shows his knack for comedic timing, showing range with his skill. My only qualm with his career is Spielberg's desire to turn him into that Hollywood poster boy. This has meant him taking many more blockbuster/action film parts. Roles that, unfortunately, don't allow for him to really spread his wings as an actor or really challenge himself. The fear here is that he may become complacent in his craft. However, there is absolutely no doubt, he definitely has talent. And there's still huge untapped potential in him, I think. Even in "cliche/safe" roles like his Transformers/Indiana Jones/Eagle Eye type parts, Shia still manages to have a charming and endearing presence about him.

5. Ben Foster

Age: 29

Most Notable Role: Alpha Dogs

Ben Foster is one of those that can definitely bring energy and edge to the screen, maybe more so than anyone else on this list. While not the most ranged actor on the list, he can definitely bring energy to the screen as well, if not better, than anybody else on here. From Hostage to Alpha Dogs to 11:14 to 3:10 to Yuma, Ben has always turned in convincing and very adept performances as the cynical/disturbing/psychotic type. He has proven time and time again that he is a master at lighting up the screen when you need to cast a menacing character.

4. Jake Gyllenhaal

Age: 29

Most Notable Role: Brokeback Mountain

I always think of Jake Gyllenhaal as a Toby Maguire with better acting chops. Prior to his breakout, Gyllenhaal did a few odd jobs here and there. Most notably though was his first lead role in October Sky. Turning in an inspiring performance as a young man seeking to avoid the coal mines his father labored in by winning a science scholarship for his work with rockets, Jake really got his foot in the door. I think his real breakout came though with Donnie Darko. Really nailing the role as a troubled and disturbed teen, Jake's performance in Donnie Darko was really well received by critics. Likewise he turned in another nice performance, again channeling that disturbed mentality, in The Good Girl with Jennifer Aniston. Showing off a bit of range, Jake gave a nice shot at comedy with Bubble Boy. From there, it was nice watching him really grow and mature as a actor. This led to him bringing more edge to his roles. In Jarhead, he channels that disturbed mentality a bit, but brings a more mature and aggressive/manly performance, really shining in the role. Later he goes on to portray a more compassionate character, starring alongside Toby Maguire in Brothers. Ironically though, I feel Maguire turned in the better performance in Brothers, but both did a very good job. Undoubtedly though, Gyllenhaal got his biggest credit for his role in Brokeback Mountain. A film that garnered a very good critical reception for both he and Heath Ledger. Jake stands as another one of those with the ability to play your "every guy" or turn in a decent comedic performance. On top of that, he can bring a heartfelt performance or switch it up and bring a darker more disturbed element to his roles. The only downfall to his past work has been his effort to try to squeeze into that blockbuster scene with his roles in The Day After Tomorrow and Prince of Persia. This area just doesn't seem to be his strong suit, but as long as he remains with good film acting and stays away from that cliche Hollywood stuff, he could prove to have his best days still ahead of him.

3. Emile Hirsch

Age: 25

Most Notable Role: Into the Wild

Emile Hirsch always seems to bring a certain energy and edge to his characters when on screen. While seemingly a bit more under-the-radar than some of his peers, Emile may possibly be the most well-rounded and polished actors of the younger generation. Whether playing a flamboyant homosexual (Milk) or the edgy street thug type (Lords of Dogtown, Alpha Dogs) or the good-willed, boy-next-door type (The Girl Next Door, Speed Racer), Emile always delivers. Passionate and dedicated to his craft, it definitely shows through in his work. Most notably in his portrayal of McCandless in Sean Penn's Into the Wild. Turning in a performance that makes you admire and pity him all at the same time, Hirsch just has a way of commanding the viewer's attention and respect.

2. Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Age: 29

Most Notable Role: (500) Days of Summer

Joseph Gordon-Levitt has proven to be a very likable and very capable actor. Starting as just a child actor with TV shows, he impressed from the start really. Getting his real breakthrough playing a quirky teen in 3rd Rock from the Sun, Gordon-Levitt has proven over the years that he can bend well beyond that comedic range and still keep that charming and endearing quality about himself. Whether doing comedy, like 3rd Rock or 10 Things I Hate About You, or indie dramas, like (500) Days or The Lookout, Joseph definitely has built some credibility and shown his range. Now we can even add blockbuster/action flicks to that after GI Joe and his most recent work in Nolan's huge hit Inception. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is really starting to be appreciated more appropriately for his work. For this reason, with the skill to back it, I see huge things for him in future. There are even rumors floating around of him reuniting with Inception director Christopher Nolan to possibly play The Riddler in Batman 3. While maybe not my ideal choice for the role, I could definitely see a defining performance from him in the role much like his 10 Things I Hate About You co-star, Heath Ledger, did under Nolan's tutelage in The Dark Knight.

1. Ryan Gosling

Age: 29

Most Notable Role: Here I'm torn between two - Half Nelson and Lars and the Real Girl

Ryan Gosling always delivers. He seems truly dedicated to his craft. Even more, he has quite a nice range, never shying from a role that may challenge him. From playing a drug-addicted teacher in Half Nelson, to playing a socially awkward man who's loneliness leads to delusion in Lars and the Real Girl. Gosling has definitely honed his craft over the years. He seems very adept at adapting to any role. In Murder By Numbers he plays the sadistic psychotic. Years later, however, we see him playing the other side of that coin as he plays good guy, going head-to-head in a mental battle with the great Anthony Hopkins in Fracture. Gosling definitely has talent and has plenty awards and nominations to back that. He should be a valuable staple in Hollywood for years to come.

Honorable Mentions

Anton Yelchin

Age: 21; (Alpha Dogs)

Michael Cera

Age: 22; (Superbad and Juno)

Nicholas Hoult

Age: 20; (About a Boy)

Lucas Black

Age: 27; (Slingblade, Killer Diller)

Looking For Something Unique? Try Turtle Watching in Florida

A visit to Central Florida usually means a trip to Orlando and its wonderful theme parks and tourist attractions. But if you want to experience something that is truly unique and do something a bit out of the ordinary, then consider taking a turtle watching tour when you are on vacation in Florida.

Sea Turtles are a species that have been on the planet for millions of years. They do their nesting and hatching in the same location year after year and if you go on a guided tour at the right time of year you may be able to watch a sea turtle complete her nesting or watch hatchlings make their way into the world. Baby sea turtles, with their incredibly big eyes, are considered one of the cutest little creatures around.

If you are visiting the east coast of Florida then there are several locations where you can join a turtle walk. They are called turtle walks rather than turtle watches because there is no guarantee that you will see a turtle at any given time. However, the odds that you will see a nesting or hatchlings are quite high if you take a properly guided walk. The season for viewing the sea turtles is in June and July.

Here are the places where you can take a tour:

Canaveral National Seashore

This is part of the Merritt Island Nation National Wildlife Refuge. Participants for the walks in the northern end of this area gather at the Canaveral National Seashore Information center located at 7611 South Atlantic Avenue in New Smyrna Beach. You can make reservations for the June walks by calling 321-428-3384 on May 15. Similarly if you want to participate in the July walks then on June 15 you must call 321-267-1110. Only 25 people can participate in a group walk and children under eight cannot take part.

Sebastian Inlet State Park, located in Melbourne Beach, is another popular turtle walk location. Public turtle walks are held several times a week in June and July. In order to take part you should make a reservation two weeks ahead of the walk. Call 321-589-2147 to make a reservation. You can reserve places for up to six people.

If you really want to be sure and see turtle hatchlings then a trip to the Museum of Discovery and Science in Fort Lauderdale might be the best place to visit. Here, during the summer months, you can watch a display of incubated live eggs. The Museum also organizes beach turtle walks and you can make a reservation (around April 15) by calling: 954-467-6637

One thing to keep in mind is that sea turtles are an endangered species and normal flashlights and flash photography are forbidden on these tours since they disorient the turtles. In addition, only trained and authorized personnel are allowed to handle sea turtles. Violations to this rule can result in a $500, 000 fine and a prison sentence.

Other popular turtle watching locales include Marine life Center of Juno Beach (561-627-8280), Sea Turtle Preservation Society, Melbourne (321-676-1701), Florida Power and Light Company, Jensen Beach (800-334-5483), Hobe Sound Nature Center (772-546-2067), Mote Marine Laboratory, Sarasota (941-388-4331) and Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge, Vero Beach (772-562-3909, ext.258)

Call the phone numbers for the various turtle watching centers in April if you want to be sure of making a tour in the summer because space is limited.

Inception Review

Writer/directer Christopher Nolan brought a whole new dimension to Batman with Batman Begins and Dark Knight. Inception elevates Nolans brilliance and vision to a whole new level. Starring Ken Watandabe and Cillian Murphy from Batman Begins and adding the star of stars, Leonardo DiCaprio, Nolan has brought together a phenomenal cast. Ellen Page, of Juno and X-Men Last Stand fame, has a leading role in the film. Every great movie has to have a cute girl. This is definitely a great movie, and Ellen Page fills this role spectacularly.

DiCaprio stars as Cobb, a thief who uses advanced technology to enter peoples dreams and steal secrets, thoughts, and ideas. Cobb is offered a payment he can not refuse from a corporate mogul by the name of Saito(Ken Watanabe) for a job thought to be impossible. The target for the job is Robert Fischer(Murphy), who is the heir to a rival business of Saito's. Cobb of course takes the job and starts by recruiting a team, which includes Ariadne(Page), an adorable college girl, who is the architect of the dreams they build. With nonstop action and suspense the movie takes off from there.

The story was more than amazing. DiCaprio, as always put on an award winning performance, and I don't have one complaint about any of the other cast. The lighting and camera work, were as well a vision of perfection. Inception left me with only wonder and amazement. I could stand to watch this one a couple more times.

You won't be going for that popcorn refill during this movie. Inception comes original and comes hard. I was unable to leave until after the credits for fear that I would miss something significant. Featuring amazing acting, a splendid and epic cast, and cgi effects that bring the scene to life, this movie is one of the best of 2010.

Celebrate New Year's Eve in Niagara Falls - Ontario

Celebrating the New Year in a new and exciting environment is highly desirable - and one of the main bi-products of the increasing number of cheap flights and greater global mobility is that this is becoming more and more possible. People living in Chicago can now choose to celebrate the New Year in Edinburgh, Sydney or Paris; however, you don't have to travel quite so far away from home to enjoy a spectacular party on December 31st. Visit the Winter Festival of Lights being held in Clifton Hills, in Niagara Falls, Ontario this year and you'll be able to count down to the 1st of January in style.

Clifton Hills is the major tourist promenade in the town of Niagara Falls, and this year's New Years Eve festivities will involve performances by 1980s legendary rock band, Foreigner, the Juno Award winning Colin James and the Little Big Band, and rising Canadian talent Justin Hines. 'Party in Niagara' is organised every year by the Niagara Parks Commission and the Niagara Falls New Year's Eve event planners provide party-goers with an outdoor alcohol licensed area, food and drink stalls, and fantastic fireworks over the Niagara Falls waterfalls at both 9pm and midnight.

Best of all, the event is free; held in Queen Victoria Park, it attracts around 30,000 people each year. The event is also covered on television and is screened from 11pm until 12.30am. Jim Williams, chair of the Niagara Parks Commission stated:

"New Year's Eve is one of Niagara Falls' busiest and best nights of the year. With the enthusiasm of all our partners, the whole city is coming alive with more to do than anywhere else in Canada. Visitors and residents should come down and enjoy our entire tourism district in full swing - from great music in Queen Victoria Park to high-energy gaming at Casino Niagara and Fallsview Casino Resort; from the family fun of Clifton Hills to our romantic restaurants and spectacular hotel getaways."

Hollywood North - BC's Favourite Feature Film Locations

There's good reason why Vancouver is honoured with such a glamourous pseudonym. After all, it has been a filmmaking centre for almost a century.

In 1910, the Edison Manufacturing Company shot two films - the Cowpuncher's Glove and The Ship's Husband. The rest, as they say, is history. Today, the province of British Columbia hosts more than half of Canada's total foreign production slate and is North America's third largest film production centre behind Los Angeles and New York. But what makes this such an attractive place to shoot? There's the short 3-hour plane ride from LA and of course the tax breaks... but it's the myriad of amazing location options that keep Hollywood coming back for more. And it's this continual support from the heavy-hitters south of the border that has helped nurture Vancouver's own industry. Bridge Studios in the metropolitan Vancouver township of Burnaby not only has one of the biggest special effects stages on the continent but has also been responsible for such TV shows and feature films as Black Christmas and the award-winning hit, Juno. Vancouver is also home to the world-acclaimed Vancouver International Film Festival and the Vancouver Film and Television Forum. But we digress. The key is still location, location, location. And you might be surprised just how many productions call this their home. Your next trip to Vancouver you might find yourself walking through some of your favourite movies...

Most people are familiar with Vancouver's flagship shows such as 21-Jump Street, The X-Files, Smallville and Supernatural, but not many people realize that they're taking a behind-the-scenes tour as soon as they step off the plane. Vancouver International Airport (YVR) has served as the set for movies such as Final Destination, The Cleaner, Firewall, The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer as well as the hit TV show, The L Word.

BC Place is the 60 thousand-seater stadium on the downtown shores of False Creek. This unmistakable white domed structure has played host to regional and international sport events as well as trade shows and super-concerts. But unknown to most, it has also factored in favourite films such as Paycheck, Butterfly on a Wheel, Two for the Money and The Fantastic Four. Mere blocks away is Vancouver's Chinatown - the second largest of its kind in North America behind San Francisco. And with the colourful shops, open-air markets and attractions such as the Han Dynasty Bell in Shanghai Alley and the Dr. Sun Yat Sen Classical Chinese Garden, it's easy to see why this would be a favourite with location scouts. You might recognize this unique corner of the city in films such as Killer Instinct, X-Men: The Last Stand, Rumble in the Bronx and Unforgettable.

Vancouver's Anglo Olde Towne has seen its fair share of action, too. The character buildings and cobbled streets of Gastown have attracted more than just tourists cameras over the years. See if you recognize anything familiar in Catwoman, I, Robot, Legends of the Fall, Romeo Must Die and the immortal kids' classic, The NeverEnding Story. Vancouver's new neighbourhoods have seen their fair share of the spotlight, too. The uber-trendy condo and brewpub neighbourhood of Yaletown has featured in such films as 88 Minutes, Good Luck Chuck, Rumble in the Bronx and the TV series Stargate SG-1. Spending a cultured day at the Vancouver Art Gallery? So did the cast and crew of The Core, The Deal, Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed and Night at the Museum.

Most summer trips to Vancouver include a visit to the Pacific National Exhibition - a city institution that started in 1910 as a provincial industrial showcase and has grown into one of the biggest entertainment venues on the continent. Internationally-acclaimed, award winning live shows have originated here such as Cirque Pop, City Rhythm and Bring on the Night but so have many motion pictures - Rocky IV, Cats & Dogs, Final Destination 3, Riding the Bullet, Fear and Best in Show...

Even the local seat of learning has made room for the occasional director's chair. The vast and beautiful campus of the University of British Columbia (UBC) has provided settings for feature films such as X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Antitrust and The Exorcism of Emily Rose as well as the TV shows The 4400, Bionic Woman, Stargate Atlantis, Battlestar Galactica and Deadzone.

Film production in British Columbia is not relegated to Metropolitan Vancouver. The capital city of Victoria on Vancouver Island has seen its share of production time as well. Craigdarroch Castle, once home to the Turn of the Century coal tycoon family, the Dunsmuirs, has undergone many metamorphoses including war hospital, music conservatory, museum and more recently home to the March sisters in the motion picture, Little Women. Maybe you're not into the period-pieces. Sucker for those mid-eighties action films? You'll probably recognize the one-block stretch of downtown Victoria's Fan Tan Alley that was shot and then looped to create the deceptively long motorbike chase with Mel Gibson and Goldie Hawn in Bird on a Wire. More into the horror genre? Any visitor to Victoria who has walked through the popular Bastion Square might feel a prickle of familiar uneasiness. This could be because Bastion Square briefly became the Parisian corner on which the main character in Final Destination meets his inevitable end.

Other areas in the province have become immortalized through the silver screen. The barren, windswept hills of Williams Lake in the Cariboo Chilcotin became a fourteenth century Asian battleground for Antonio Bandera and cast in The Thirteenth Warrior. Just north of Vancouver in the picturesque town of Lions Bay, Jennifer Garner earned her superhero stripes as Elektra. Historic Barkerville became seedy, small town Mexico for Robert Rodriguez hit, Desperado. Kamloops doubled as an American military prison camp in Germany in the acclaimed film, Cadence. And Steve Martin immortalized Nelson in the unforgettable hit, Roxanne.

But the best part about Hollywood North isn't the movies that have been shot here in the past - it's the one that are being shot here right now. At any given point in Vancouver, Victoria or anywhere in the province, you might stumble upon a line of huge white trailers, a closed street, a flurry of activity, a famous face and a fast growing crowd of curious spectators. Nothing compares to the excitement of a behind-the-scenes perspective as the magic of Hollywood unfolds right here, up north.

Welcome to BC. Lights, camera...

Movie Reviews - Uncertainty

Movie reviews this week looks at the thriller Uncertainty.

It stars the gorgeous Lynn Collins (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) as Kate and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (3rd Rock from the Sun) as Bobby, two young couple, going about their normal day who decide on the toss of a coin whether to spend 4th of July at the home of one of their parents or togethe. The movie follows them as they spend it together, when they happen to find a mobile phone at the back of a taxi. Against suggestions from Kate to hand the phone over to the driver of the taxi, Bobby refuses, and tries to be the good Samaritan, by calling random numbers on the phone, telling them he happens to have found the phone at the back of a taxi giving his name and personal mobile number, as well as his address, to contact him so he can return the phone.

Soon afterward someone calls saying they will arrange to pick up the phone from Bobby's location, and that they will be identified in a red shirt, while Bobby says they can identify him as he is wearing a yellow shirt.

It turns out that some shady characters are dead set on getting the phone, and much to Kate, and Bobby's horror, the fellow who came in the red shirt is shot in broad day light, while someone else phones Bobby on the same phone telling them his name is Dmitri claiming that the phone is his and he wants it back.

The young couple flee for their lives, as the assassin scans around looking for who the man in the red shirt came to meet. The first instinct of the couple is to rush over to the nearest police station and report what has happened, and to mention that it has something to do with the phone they found at the back of a taxi. Whilst at the police station they begin searching on the Internet with the names the know in connection with the phone so far, and happen to come upon some information that the phone might contain some financial figures to do with the lottery, and it could be worth several millions in the right hands.

The couple begin to wonder what on earth is so vitally important on the phone that someone is prepared to kill for it, and they decide to send a text message to Dmitri (switching on the phone for a short time as they are worried they may be some kind of trace on it) with an anonymous email account to email them on (so they can check it publicly), where they ask for $500,000 to give back the phone.

At first the man calling himself Dmitri, refuses stating this is his phone, and threatening them, Bobby calmly tells Kate he will pay, while Kate says it doesn't look as if he is prepared to pay, however the last email sent from Dmitri says he will pay, and the young couple set about trying to find a safe location for them to meet.

What sets this movie apart is that it follows two different alternate scenarios, which the viewer sees simultaneously, instead of Kate and Bobby happening to find the phone at the back of a taxi, they alternate scenario is that they visit Kate's parents home to celebrate the 4th of July, where Kate's mother Sylvia played by Assumpta Serna (Henry the VIII) is trying to talk some sense into Kate's sister Sophie played by the gorgeous Olivia Thirlby (Juno), and Bobby tries to impress Kate's mother, father and very close knit family, amidst some interesting news the couple haven't yet found the strength to let Kate's parents know about.

Uncertainty is a very interesting movie of cat and mouse, with superb and energetic performances from the brilliant cast.

Belfast Attractions - Grand Opera House

A little bit of history

Located on Victoria Street, beside the Europa Hotel, in Belfast city centre, the Grand Opera House has had a long and illustrious history. Designed by renowned architect Frank Matcham, it was originally opened in December 1895. The venue was renamed the Palace of Varieities in 1904, but its name was reverted to the original in 1909.

In the years after World War I, the Grand Opera House played host to a number of popular variety acts such as Sarah Bernhardt, Gracie Fields, Laurence Olivier and the National Theatre Company. During the Second World War, the Opera House amazingly escaped major bombing, and as one of the celebrations at the end of the war in 1945, the US President Eisenhower and General Montgomery of the British War Council both attended gala performances here.

In 1949 the Opera House was sold to the Rank Organisation, a British Entertainment organisation, and it was reopened as a cinema. This led to many lean years for the theatre, due to the popularity of TV and of course due to "The Troubles".

In 1969, the Grand Opera House was damaged through paramilitary bombing campaigns, due to its proximity to the Europa Hotel. In fact in 1972 it was facing a bleak future of closure and demolition. However, it was given a 'listed building' status in 1976 and became one of the first properties in Belfast to be listed as being of historical and architectural significance. Control of the Opera House was entrusted to the Arts Council of Northern Ireland in 1976 and it was secured a bright future.

A significant restoration project was carried out on the venue in 1980, and it's worth noting that this project was probably the catalyst to the redevelopment of Belfast city centre. Since then it has played host to many of the ballet and singing stars of the time. In 1991 and again in 1993, the Opera House was unfortunately bombed, but nevertheless it continued as normal and played host to musicals, plays, pantomimes and live music.

1994 saw the administration of the Grand Opera House handed to the Grand Opera House Trust. 2006 saw major re-development and refurbishments initiated. Improvements to the theatre included increased stage space, accommodation for performing acts, better customer facilties and acess for disabled guests. The Baby Grand was the name of a smaller events centre created under the redevelopment project, and Luciano's café bar and restaurant.

Not everyone was pleased with the exterior appearance of the Opera House, some felt that it took away from the original design, but the improved patron facilties have been warmly welcomed. The Grand Opera House re-opened with a Gala Event in October 2006.

Location, how to get here and facilities

The Grand Opera House is located beside the Europa Hotel and the city's main bus and train station, Europa Station, on Great Victoria Street. From here it's only about a 2 minute walk to the Grand Opera House.

If you're driving there's easy access from both the M1 and M2 motorways. From the M1 exit at the Boucher Road Junction. Continue along Donegall Road, and then take either Sandy Row or Shaftesbury Square. From the M2, go onto the Westlink and take the Divis Street exit. Take a right at the traffic lights onto College Avenue, and continue straight ahead onto Great Victoria Street.

Just behind the Europa Hotel, is a multi-storey car park. There's also some limited street parking available on Glengall Street, close to the venue.

Luciano's Restaurant, Café and Bar, cater for guests and party groups to the theatre. You can arrange for pre-event group meals and snacks through prior contact with the Opera House.

Bars are located on most levels of the Grand Opera House. However it is recommended that drinks are pre-ordered before show interval breaks. Post show drinks can be enjoyed in Luciano's.

There are no ATM Machines at the venue, though all major credit and debit cards are accepted at the premises. There is an ATM machine at the Europa Station. Confectionery and merchandise can be purchased at a confectionery stand located in the Theatre Foyer. Show merchandise can be purchased at locations throughout the building during shows.

There are excellent facilities for disabled people, and for those who are visually impaired.

Major events at the Grand Opera House...

Some major international artists, musicals, plays and pantomimes have been held at the venue. Music legends such as Van Morrison, Christy Moore, Oscar Winner from the Film "Once" Glen Hansard and Martha Wainwright have in the past performed here, and will perform here later in 2008 as well. Popular musicals such as Jungle Book, West Side Story and High School Musical are to be performed here later this year. Plays such as Juno and the Paycock, and Christmas Events such as "Cinderella on Ice" will take place also later this year.

Astrological Choices - Major Planets, Minor Planets, Comets and Asteroids

As with the other articles in this series we will explore a single astrological concept where the student or reader must make a choice from multiple possibilities. Such choices reflect the interest of the student or reader, the usefulness of the information, the reliability and quantity of the study material and the type of charting being contemplated. What ends up being selected as preferable by a single astrologer is not a commentary on the validity of other choices or techniques. It is simply personal preference. Rarely can an astrologer become expert in all categories of astrology. That prodigious task usually falls to the researcher or the teacher who do need a wider range of knowledge. I would doubt seriously if any one person could ever know all of astrology, Astrology is as vast as human experience and would be a pretty large order to fill. I have worked on this broader scope of knowledge for over 35 years and I confess I don't know all of it and probably never will. Astrology is a humbling experience!

Previously we looked at tropical and sidereal astrology, geocentric and heliocentric methods, equal and unequal houses, types of charts chosen and whether we are currently in the Age of Pisces or the Age of Aquarius. These are all choices we must make, but none is either right or wrong, better or worse, for the study of astrology. In this article I want to look at which bodies you might choose to study or read. We will look at the personal points, such as the ascendant or midheaven, in a separate article.

The major astrological planets consist of our Sun, our Moon, and eight planets. The Sun, which is literally a star, is the body that is the central gravitational force that holds our entire solar system together and it is its governor. Our Moon is the closest celestial body to us and is not truly a planet though it is referred to as one for ease of reference as a collective. The Moon is a satellite of the Earth. Because of the size/distance differential, the Sun and Moon appear to be the same size and were considered by the ancients to be the celestial parents: dad and mom. The conjunction was the marriage or union that was thought to produce offspring: the planets.

Only five planets were in standard use by the ancients even through they were aware of the existence of other bodies. Those five planets were Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. In more recent history the discovery of Uranus, Neptune and Pluto brought us to a total of eight planets, or offspring, of the celestial parents.

The more recent re-discovery of the three outer planets changed the original system of rulership of planets over signs. The two systems of rulership will be a future subject of this series on astrological choices. I recommend at the moment that you study and use both the old and new rulership systems because the jury is still out on the two.

Standard astrological practice includes the use of the ten bodies that are collectively referred to as "the planets" although in reality one is a star and the other a satellite. Most recently the status of Pluto was changed by astronomers but the change itself was controversial. I continue to use Pluto as a planet in my practice and teachings, my choice.

There are many more bodies available to astrologers to study and to read. How far should you go in your studies and which bodies should move to the front of your line? I recommend you start with the ten major bodies just listed. You will have your hands full initially just understanding the ten main principles. Give yourself a chance. Don't take on more until you instinctively know those ten energies thoroughly. Their study will become the core and the basis for everything else you will study and apply. Just remember that these ten do not constitute all your possibilities.

When you feel comfortable with those ten energies, the sky is truly the limit for your choices. As an example, let's do a brief run-though of the possibilities, which number in the thousands and are growing by thousands per month, (can you say overwhelming?) and triage them into a more manageable proportion.

There is a mathematical formula called Bode's Law that shows where planets should be located as you move outward from the Sun. There are two anomalies in the measurement and they are not believed to be the problem of the formula. These two anomalies are bodies that should or should not be located at two points in the overall measurement. There is a body (Neptune) where none should be according to Bode's Law. The position of Pluto falls into the mathematical formula instead. Additionally, again according to Bode's Law, a body should be located between Mars and Jupiter. The large field of debris and asteroids in the Asteroid Belt suggests it is likely there was a body once located there in our solar system's distant past.

Not all asteroids are located in the Asteroid Belt. Asteroids come in all shapes and sizes and are found in several locations throughout our solar system. A large collection is located at the LaGrange Points of Jupiter. These are believed to be a collection of asteroids that have wandered into Jupiter's sphere of influence by magnetic attraction, or by sheer happenstance. Most dramatically, there are many asteroids in the inner reaches of the solar system including a collection whose orbits take them close to the Earth called Earth Grazers. Our scientists are on continual watch of these bodies, which may have future impact on Earth because of their proximity to us.

There are four asteroids that are in common usage and should be listed for your stage two studies: Ceres, Juno, Pallas and Vesta. Why would I choose these four rather than some of the newer more exciting discoveries? Astrologers have built a wealth of information and proof of the influence and probable rulerships of these four asteroids. There is more material, more serious research, more experience in reading and teaching so these are a good place to start your study on minor bodies. Many years ago I had marvelous results studying other asteroids, particularly Hidalgo for a specific application. That being said, most of the other asteroids have a much shorter discovery and identification and have less credible material available. Asteroids do work, but allow yourself time to learn gradually.

At the outer edges of what we refer to as our known solar system is an area called the Kuiper Belt. The Kuiper Belt is thought to be the inner part of another system called the Oort Cloud. This area is considered to hold the remnants from the formation of our solar system. Contained within these regions are very large asteroids, planetoids, dwarf planets and comets. The discovery of what is thought to be planets larger than Pluto very near Pluto was exciting. As mentioned, Pluto was recently declassified as a planet and reclassified as a dwarf planet by astronomers. I do continue to use Pluto as a planet. There is a wealth of knowledge, research and material using Pluto's astrological influence that has been developed since its discovery in 1930.

That recent declassification of Pluto to dwarf planet status by astronomers, however, created a new category for a study of the other bodies inhabiting those nether regions of our solar system. At those vast distances it is difficult to determine if the bodies are asteroids, planetoids or comets. There is a wealth of new material being developed on them and they could eventually hold the same power and sway as Pluto so this would be another category for a later phase of your studies. This is a work in progress as I write this.

Comets are thought to be more ice and gas than rocky and are thought to originate in the Kuiper Belt and Oort Cloud. Comets seem to be kicked from the Kuiper Belt region into the inner part of the solar system where they orbit the Sun for a time before they get a little too close and become ice toast. There are long period comets and short period comets - those who orbit infrequently and those that orbit frequently. The most famous of the comets for centuries was Halley's, which has a 75-76 year period orbit. Certain comets have been catalogued and read for thousands of years. The ancients, for example, saw the comets as harbingers of national or leadership trials and tribulations. Recently Chiron, which is a massive comet but was originally cast as a new planet, has become very well known. The study of the Centaurs (Chiron is the leader) will occupy a great deal of your time on the study of comets, but this is a relatively new area, Start with Chiron and if you choose your sources carefully, this would be a good addition to a later phase of your study.

There are other bodies or pseudo-bodies to study. As a novice astrologer I learned about Dark Moon Lilith and included her in everything I did. I studied her and practiced for two years before someone told me she was not considered a major planet. I have to tell you in the two years of my steady application, she sure acted like a major player. I continue to use her today because I got so much mileage out of her in my early studies and thereafter. Since that time Black Moon Lilith (an intersection point in space and not a body) and the asteroid Lilith have come to light. I have not done a deep study on either of them. Dark Moon Lilith is my choice at this time for me because I have personal knowledge of her workings.

The Trans-Neptunian planets are hypothetical planets placed at crucial intersection points noted by astrologers over several decades. I have not made a study of them, although they are on this year's to-do list for me. Many well-known and knowledgeable astrologers trust them so choose your sources and your material wisely and put these on your advanced study list as you grow in your astrological knowledge and experience.

This is about as far as this brief article can take you in helping you triage what you can study and use on the subject of major and minor bodies. Celestial bodies are being discovered at about 3,000 per month the last time I checked. That is way too many bodies to keep up with so you must be selective. Start with what has stood the test of time; then move into those areas currently under serious study. Choose your bodies, your authors and your teachers and stay with what is credible. Study astronomy along with astrology because astronomy walks hand and hand with astrology. Select a category or a few specific bodies and take the time to develop your skill and knowledge at reading those before you move on to your next set of choices. All of it is available, but only some is valuable: pace yourself.

Disaster Movie - Movie Review

They don't make them like they used to, a phrase that gets thrown around a lot however in this case is very true. Gone are the days of classic film parodies such as airplane or even scary movie, now we are forced to watch garbage like 'meet the Spartans, superhero movie, and epic movie' and many more features that shouldn't see the light of day. Disaster movie like predicted is a huge disaster.

Disaster Movie this time follows and tries to parody the movie Cloverfield and adds a lot of non funny pop culture jokes along the way. Will, Amy and Calvin played by Matt Lanter, Vanessa Minnillo, and Gary 'G Thang' Johnson are at the centre of the story, these three friends embark across the city to save Will's love Lisa played by Kim Kardashian who is trapped in a history museum.

Along the way these 3 team up with parody versions of the movie Juno and Disney's Enchanted's princess, other movies to get the parody treatment are Iron man, Batman, The incredible Hulk and Indiana Jones also celebrities such as Hannah Montana, Jessica Simpson and Dr Phil get the parody treatment.

This film l is a complete nightmare and I think the main problem with this movie is not only are the jokes un funny but the writers take so long in trying to explain the jokes, for example a joke that should only last 1 minute to execute takes 5 in this feature, however this could be to do with the target audience being a bunch of 5 year old kids, simply because no one else should find any of this rubbish funny.

Disaster movie is easily one of the worst films made, there for I would highly urge you not to watch this movie.

Brands of Guitar Amplifiers

A wide range of instrument amplifiers is now available, some for general purposes and some designed for specific instruments and even for particular sounds. Traditional guitar amplifiers come up with a clean, warm sound, a sharp treble roll off at 5 kHz or less and bass roll off at 60 to100 Hz, often with built in reverb and tremolo units. Bass amplifiers have extended bass response and tone controls optimized for bass guitars (or more rarely, for upright bass).

Higher end bass amplifiers sometimes include compressor or limited features, which help to keep the amplifier from distorting at high volume levels. Keyboard amplifiers have a very low distortion and extended flat frequency response in both directions. Keyboard amplifiers often have a simple onboard mixer, so that keyboardists can control the tone and level of several keyboards. Acoustic amplifiers are designed specifically to produce a clean, transparent, acoustic sound when used with acoustic instruments with built in transducer pickups and microphones.

Some well known brands of guitar amplifiers

While there are almost innumerable manufacturers of guitar amplifiers, we will be discussing the most important brands that have created history in guitar amplification.

Carvin Corporation

The Carvin Corporation is a musical instrument and equipment manufacturer, located in San Diego, California, well known among guitar players for their guitars. Carvin was founded in 1946 by Lowell Kiesel, and originally manufactured guitar pickups. Carvin Corporation manufactures acoustic and electric guitars, bass guitars and accessories, amplifiers, live studio sound equipments, microphones and lighting gears.

Korg Corporation

Korg Corporation is a Japanese multinational corporation that manufactures electronic musical instruments and guitar tuners. The company is one of the most widely used and respected names in the electronic music world. Founded in 1962 in Japan by Tsutomu Kato and Tadashi Osanai, Korg was originally known as Keio Electronic Laboratories because its fledgling offices were located near the Keio train line in Tokyo and Keio can be formed by combining the first letters of Kato and Osanai. Yamaha Corporation has always been a major partner of Korg, supplying them with circuitry and mechanical parts.

Marshall Amplification

Marshall Amplification is a British company which designs and manufactures electric guitar amplifiers. Marshall Amplifiers are well known and highly popular among guitarists. Marshall Amplifiers were originally built as direct copies of Fender amplifiers, but soon incorporated certain traits which made them more favorable to guitarists seeking a heavier sound. Like most professional level amplifiers, Marshall amplifiers still use valve preamp and power amplifier stages instead of solid state devices. Marshall also manufactures cheaper solid-state or hybrid devices.

Vox

Vox is a musical equipment manufacturer, which is most famous for making the AC30 guitar amplifier and the Vox electric organ. Founded in Great Britain, Vox is now owned by the Japanese electronics firm Korg. In 1959, with sales under pressure from the more powerful Fender Twin and from The Shadows, who requested amplifiers with more power, Vox produced what was essentially a double powered AC15 and named it the AC30.

Roland Corporation

Roland Corporation is a Japanese manufacturer of electronic musical instruments, electronic equipment and software. It was founded by Ikutaro Kakehashi in Osaka on April 18, 1972 with 33 million yen in capital. Some of the recent amplifiers from Roland Corporation are Roland SH 201, Roland Juno G, Roland MV 8800 and Roland V Synth GT.

Victor Epand is an expert consultant for guitars, drums, and synthesizers. You can find the best marketplace for guitars, drums, and synthesizers at these 3 sites: guitars, guitar amplifiers, drums, drum sets, drum kits, and synthesizers, keyboards.

Valentine Is For Purification

Lupercalia, the Roman festival, which provided a template for the valentine celebrations, depicted February as the month of protection and purification from unproductivitiy.

Lupercalia celebrations that were done on February 15th had been dedicated to god Lupercus for 800 years before AD 392 when all pagan cults were prohibited by an edict of emperor Theodosius.

It was believed that lupercus guarded and watched over the shepherds and their flocks against the wolves who roamed Rome.

During Lupercalia feasts, honour was also directed to Juno Februata, the goddess, the queen of the heaven and the wife of Jupiter (Zeus). In her honour, youths of noble birth ran through the streets with goatskin thongs. Young women would throng the streets hoping to be lashed with the sacred thongs, as it was believed to make them better able to bear children. The goatskin thongs were known as the februa and the lashing was called the februatio, both emanating from a Latin word meaning to purify. Therefore, February is the month of purification.

In this light, world leaders would give humanity the best valentine gifts by purifying their areas of jurisdiction simply by ensuring that, no one dies of treatable diseases, hunger, no one suffers from preventable oppression and that every person gets opportunities to maximise their potentials. This would help make our world a pleasant dome.

Lupercalia was so significant that Mark Anthony, an important Roman, who was master of the Luperci festival saw the year 44 BC as the proper time for offering the crown to Julius Caesar.

Lupercalia was renamed saint valentine's day by priests when emperor Theodosius I banned all pagan feasts in AD 392.

The catholic encyclopaedia names three saint valentines who were martyred on February 14th. One was a priest and physician at Rome, another was a bishop of Terni in Italy and the other lived and died in Africa.

Most scholars believe that saint valentine the priest of Rome and saint valentine the bishop of Terni in Italy were the same person because both were beheaded on February 14th AD 270 by the Roman emperor Claudius 11 Crothicus the cruel.

Claudius was angry when his solders were too few. He banned all weddings in a bid to force young men into military service. However, Saint Valentine wedded secretly those couples who sought his aid. He was consequently jailed and beheaded for flouting that ban on weddings.

In AD 496, pope Gelasius changed the Lupercalia festival of February 15th to Saint Valentine's Day February 14th.

It was popularly believed in Europe that February 14th was the day that birds began to choose their mates and began mating. Therefore during that day, there was a lottery where the names of maidens were placed in a box and drawn out by the young men. Each man accepted the girl whose name he drew as his love for a year or longer.

In a bid to Christianize that pagan celebration, the priests substituted the drawing of saint's names for the names of the girls.

On Saint Valentine's Day, the priest placed saint's names into an urn or box. The young people then drew a name from the container. In the following year, which began in March, the youth was supposed to emulate the life of the saint whose name he had drawn. However, this adaptation was not sustainable because people often reverted to using names of the girls instead of names of saints on valentine day.

Therefore, Saint Valentine day to a politician is a day to seek counsel from the successful political heroes; to students it is time to choose the best academic mentor and to the businesspersons it is a prime moment to harness the unbeatable digital entrepreneurships, to the religious, it is a day to purify one self and to choose a role model of a life of holiness. While to the lousy it is a day of lust and licentiousness.

To the Christian who abhors valentine day on the grounds of its pagan origin, it would be wise to remember that all of us were once pagans.

The 9 Gifts of Numerology (and How to Use Them)

Numbers are energies.

Numbers represent the spectrum of creative forces that shape the universe, governing both the form of the material world and our experiences in it. These energies are at work on all levels, from the macro to the micro, the physical to the spiritual. They teach us about the cyclical nature of life, how we all emanate out from a singular source and back again.

Numerologist Juno Jordan beautifully summarizes the character of each number in her book Numerology: The Romance in Your Name.

The Spectrum of Human Experience

It is the Force of the outgoing number 1,

the Light and the Peace of the number 2,

the Imagination of the number 3,

the Form and Order of the number 4,

the Life and Progress of the number 5,

the Responsibility of the number 6,

the Intelligence and Perfection of the number 7,

the Judgement of the number 8,

the Compassion and Benevolence of the number 9.

~~~~~~~~~
Each of the numbers 1-9 offers a gift, a resource that we can draw on as we navigate through life.
The number 1 offers the gift of Unity. Through the 1 we remember our connection to all of creation, so that we need not feel so adrift in the mystery that surrounds us.
The number 2 offers the gift of Polarity. It shows us that opposites attract, different but not divided. It is the dance of magnetism that energizes the universe.
The number 3 offers the gift of Initiation. It is the spark that drives us forward, fueling our will to make our dreams reality.
The number 4 offers the gift of Order. It is the grounding, stabilizing quality of the material world that helps us to get things done.
The number 5 offers the gift of Life Force. It is the inexhaustible flow of vitality and abundance that is available to us any time we need it.
The number 6 offers the gift of Harmony. It speaks of the support and nurturing of family and community that makes us whole.
The number 7 offers the gift of Vision. It shows us that there is more to life than meets the eye. By taking a step back from our immediate situation, we can gain perspective and see new truths.
The number 8 offers the gift of Mastery. It reveals the infinite in a seemingly finite world. By bringing our spiritual perspective down to Earth, we can act with true power and certainty.
The number 9 offers the gift of Attainment. It gathers together all of our resources and knowledge, forming a deep reservoir of experience that we can draw on to contribute to the uplift of humanity.
~~~~~~~~~

Using the gifts of numbers in your life

Increasing your understanding of how the numbers play out in your life is a powerful way to harness their gifts and use the universe's creative energies to build the life you want.

Learn about your personal numerology, the numbers of your birth date and name, which you have carried with you all your life. There are many fine books available that can teach you about your personal numbers or schedule a session with an experienced numerologist.
If you have a favorite number, consider its meaning and the energy that it is bringing to you.
Watch for any numbers that regularly appear and see what message they bring.
Determine which number(s) may help you in achieving your goals and call their energies into your life. Viewing and/or creating sacred geometry designs that represent these numbers is one way of doing this.

Most importantly, have fun!

Palm Springs Film Festival

Glamorous stars, creative directors and Hollywood moguls congregate in luscious Palm Springs sunshine at the 19th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival. They come here to accept their awards, meet their fans and celebrate their notoriety. But there's also another reason for their presence here. Since the 1930's and the golden days of the Palms Springs Racquet Club, stars have been attracted to the Desert like fireflies to a porch light on a balmy, summer day.

Why is that?

Forget the films, the panels, the chance to meet the stars- while you're in the middle of all that, stand outside a little apart from the crowd and look up. You will see and feel the natural opulence, the breathtaking presence of a star-studded a Palm Springs evening. The star-studded jewels in the sky and the jewelry-studded Hollywood stars on the Red Carpet are natural companions in this fabulous venue. More than 200 films from all over the world, dozens of appearances and award ceremonies, an unbeatable congregation of incredible film panels create the intrigue and excitement of this event but they can never completely obscure the natural opulence of their setting.

Although the entire schedule is still draped in mystery, we do know that this year, Jerry Weintraub will receive the prestigious Patrons of the Arts Award presented by emissaries from SAG in honor of his contributions to the film industry. Sometime actor, sometime producer and sometime manager of the Stars, Hollywood has surely felt his touch. We also know that Jason Reitman's Juno will receive the Chairman's Vanguard award. But when the full schedule is released, it will be as dazzling and surprising as ever.

January 3-14 is just stone's throw away in time, but there is still chance to plan for a twelve-day event that you will never forget. This is the 19th year of the famous film festival, started by Mayor Sonny Bono, Cher entrepreneur/singing partner, whose visionary political leadership spanned the rebuilding of Palm Springs downtown, a serious Salton Sea initiative and the creation of an enduring film festival. By this time, there are few directors, actors or cinematographer's who have not somehow touched the Festival with their talents or their personal appearance. Recently Shirley Maclaine, Kate Winslett and Sydney Pollock have received their honors personally. Last year, Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett accepted an award for their Movie, Babel.

The film festival is a natural place for the stars to visit as they have continued to do since they fell in love with Palm Springs real estate during the era of Charles Farrell and Ralph Bellamy's discovery of the Racquet Club. Elvis Presley, Groucho Marx, Bob Hope, Liberace, Frank Sinatra were one of the hundreds who have lived or played here. We wonder if, besides the living, the shades of many Hollywood celebrities of Palm Springs rest easier as this festival honors their great legacies. Surely, Sonny Bono will be among them, a happy parent to what is now an enriching global epiphany of talent, film and natural splendor.

Till We All Come In The Unity Of The Faith

Till we all come in the unity of the faith.

From the beginning of man upon this earth, we have seen at no time, unity in government, social values nor faith in one God. There are many gods and lords many upon this earth. This started many years ago because of the dissatisfaction of man with God and His statutes and laws. The dissatisfaction of man with truth, righteousness and Holiness.

With This dissatisfaction came;

The Twelve Immortals of the Grecians, Dinah of the Ephesians, and of the image(Meteor) which fell down from Jupiter,

Baal of the Phoenicians, Juno and Zeus of the Romans, Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva of the Hindus, cows, monkeys, snakes, lizards and even rocks(Meteorites), and all the major and minor gods of mans imagination. Within these religions, and many others not mentioned, there is no unity of the spirit of man with the true God, Jehovah.(The Great "I Am", Lord, God, Jesus Christ.)

Act 17:22-23; Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars' hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious.

For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.

Eph 4:13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

"Till we all come in the unity of the faith."

Unity;

Unity of faith, is an equal belief of the same truths of God, and possession of the grace of faith in like form and degree.

Unity of spirit, is the oneness which subsists between Christ and his saints, by which the same spirit dwells in both, and both have the same disposition and aims; and it is the oneness of Christians among themselves, united under the same head, having the same spirit dwelling in them, and possessing the same graces, faith, love, hope.

Knowledge; A clear and certain perception of that which exists, or of truth and fact; the perception of the connection and agreement, or disagreement and repugnancy of our ideas.

We can have no knowledge of that which does not exist. God has a perfect knowledge of all his works. Human knowledge is very limited, and is mostly gained by observation and experience.(Websters.)

Unity of faith and of Knowledge in one true, living and eternal God. This unity comes only from the faith and belief in Jesus the Christ, whom many associate and compare with God Himself, for God and Christ are one. This undeniable truth comes from of faith in God and His word. Not just of the New Testament written after the assention of Christ back to the Father, but from the original Old Testament Scriptures. These scriptures herald the coming of the Messiah and or Jesus to this earth. A savior in the flesh , preordained and prophesied in Scripture. The fulfillment of these prophecy's were fulfilled in Jesus.

Many other religions comment on unifying mankind under one god, many use force, some subversion and some by deception, and others just don't care about unity but self enlightenment of themselves.(These are the ones that hide themselves on high mountains and caves seeking the everlasting(so called) truth of the universe.

Till we all come in the unity of the knowledge of the Son of God, the Messiah.

Eph 4:14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

The Messiah;

Isa 53:2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

Can we denie the prophecy's of the Old Testament, can we say that, the man Jesus of Nazareth did not fulfill all these things within himself? Can we say that there is another that we wait for that will fulfill, judgment and unity upon mankind? Or will you seek pleasure and salvation in another? Do these dumb idols,that you worship, teach unity or devision, love or hate, life or death, righteousness and justice or bondage?

Unity of the faith cannot come by deception, illusion, the working of wonders, miracles or by force. For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.(Heb 2:4) Was not Jesus confirmed, by God, to be His light to a dark world, as the Savior of man, as the Messiah? If this is true, then we must conform ourselves to His image, which is the image of God.

We must conform to one Faith, one Lord and one baptism, which we all are to be baptized in His name. God is never contained, never represented by any image made of stone, gold, silver nor wood.

Gen 1:26 And God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness." So if you believe God then you must conform to His commandments, you must destroy your images of gold, silver and stone, you must not worship any man born of sin nor animal, creature or fish that God created. What of Gods laws? "Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the LORD your God. God is not a God of man made image, so why then do you continue to insist on worshiping them? God is not a rock from the sky, nor of the earth, so why then do you bow down to them? Is not God greater than these things? If your children ask for a fish, do you give them a stone?(Speaking of Spiritual and physical food.) Then why then would God send us, His Children, a rock, or cow or graven images, to feed us? Would He not send us the true living Bread from Heaven, in the form of Himself, Jesus? ("For this day have I begotten thee.")Psa 2:7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

Eph 4:15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: To be a child of God, we must adhere to the commandments of God. We must become one with Him as He is one with Christ. We accomplish this by grace threw faith in His Son Jesus. Speaking the truth in love, to our friends, family, acquaints and especially the enemy's of the Cross. We must love our enemies, our neighbors and all mankind, as ourselves. This is not to say that, there is not a time which we must withdraw ourselves from the true enemies of the cross, for there is that time, according to scripture. Christians do not preach hate but rather the truth, in which many are offended. This offence comes from long term indoctrination in lies and traditions of your elders. We must break away from traditions and man made doctrine, that do nothing to unite all in, One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. (Eph 4:5-6.) Think about it. Ars.

Nelly Furtado - A Brief Bio

Nelly Furtado is one of the most dynamic stars in pop music today. Since the release of her first album "Whoa, Nelly!" in 2000, she's consistently pushed the boundaries of music genres by incorporating influences from music around the world. Nelly Furtado songs have won a Grammy, six Juno awards and one MTV Europe Music Award.

Born in Canada in 1978, Furtado was inspired to sing and perform at an early age. She started singing at 4 and began writing her own lyrics at 12. Shortly before she graduated from secondary school, she began making contacts within the rap and hip hop community in Toronto. A solo performance at the 1997 Honey Jam in Toronto caught the attention of Gerald Eaton and Brian West, two members of the group The Philosopher Kings. The duo helped Furtado create a demo which led to a deal with DreamWorks records. Her first single appeared on the soundtrack album for the film Brokedown Palace.

Eaton and West helped Furtado produce her debut album "Whoa Nelly!" The album was released in October of 2000 to rave reviews. The hit single "I'm Like a Bird" eventually won Furtado her first Grammy award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Additional hits from the album were "Turn Off the Light" and "On the Radio (Remember the Days). The Nelly Furtado video for the former showcased her multicultural background.

The album was critically acclaimed for her unique musical style and fresh approach to pop music. Her cultural background gave the album a unique mix of genres and sounds. Furtado is of Portuguese descent and speaks Spanish, Portuguese and Hindi.

Her second album, "Folklore", was released in November of 2003 shortly after the birth of her daughter, Nevis. Due to poor promotion by the label, the album was less successful than her first album. The singles from the album were "Powerless (Say What You Want)" and "Try". The song "Forca" from the album was used as the official anthem of the 2004 European Football Championship. The song "Childhood Dreams" was dedicated to her daughter.

In 2006, Furtado's third and most successful album to date was released. "Loose" was primarily produced by the hip hop producer Timbaland which is evident in the album's hip hop and R&B sound. Although many of her old fans rejected Furtado's new direction, the album produced number one hits across the globe. The singles "Promiscuous", "Maneater", "Say It Right" and "All Good Things (Come to an End)" topped charts in many different countries due to Nelly Furtado videos and radio play.

In addition to singing, Furtado has recently added acting to her list of skills. She made her debut in the 2006 movie "Nobody's Hero" and had a role in 2008's "Max Payne" movie. She has also appeared on television in the shows CSI: New York and Roswell.

Even though many of the lyrics on her album "Loose" are sexually suggestive, Furtado has repeatedly rejected attempts by outside influences to oversexualize her image. She turned down $500,000 that was offered to her by Playboy to use Nelly Furtado pictures. She refuses to pose in sexy outfits for magazines, and was very upset when a men's magazine digitally removed portions of her outfit so it appeared more revealing.

Furtado plans to release her fourth album between May and August of 2009. She will be recording songs in English and Spanish for the new record. She will also be recording an entire album in Spanish and an additional album in Portuguese.

'Peacock' - Film Review 2010

Harkening stylistically back to the glory days of Hitchcock, straight-to-DVD release 'Peacock' deserved a full-fledged theatrical run; chock full of quietly devastating performances, the film is one of the most quietly tension-building offerings since genre-definer 'Fargo'.

John Skillpa (played flawlessly by 'Batman Begins' scarecrow Cillian Murphy) is a small town bank clerk residing in Nebraska, a socially stunted loner living in his deceased mother's Norman Bates-worthy home. A freak train accident in John's backyard lights a powder keg of events that threaten to unveil his deepest secret and unravel the fragile script that has become the glue of routine in John's life.

Excellent supporting roles from Susan Sarandon and Bill Pullman add richly to this sadly under-seen psychological thriller, although Ellen Page ('Juno') is a tad underachieving as single mother Maggie. Little matter though, as 'Peacock' is all Murphy - his stunning multiple roles within the film's duration are both nuanced and manic, a rollercoaster of contrasting emotions at war within a character that is both simultaneously pitiful and menacing.

Detractors might argue that the dual characters at the heart of 'Peacock' are too transparent to make for a believable plot, but the producers do a skillful job at making the small town encompass a time gone by; what may seem obvious in the contemporary sense was often the furthest thing from anyone's mind in the 1950's, and the film accomplishes capturing the past admirably. An intentionally open-ended finale may leave some viewer's scratching their heads, but overall 'Peacock' is a satisfying mystery-laden thriller that is well worth a look.

Andy Kim Hits all the Right Notes

I stumbled upon Andy Kim's web site a while ago and have

come to appreciate a forgotten gem in Canadian rock. About

a month ago, I even took in one of his concerts.

The one thing that struck me during Andy Kim's Christmas

Special, which took place at the Mod Club Theatre in

Toronto on Friday, December 2nd, 2005, was the sheer

diversity of the guests who took part. And not just in style, but

in age as well. Is this a renaissance of sorts for Andy Kim?

You bet it is.

Let me begin with a refresher in the school of Andy Kim. At

the tender age of 16, with nothing but desire and raw talent

in his pockets, Kim left his native Montreal for New York City

in the late 60s in search of stardom. Many Canadians found

themselves in the same predicament as Kim, as there was

no Canadian music industry to speak of. In this light, Andy

Kim is a true Canadian rock trailblazer.

Along with Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, The Guess Who and

The Band, Andy Kim was part of a small but dynamic

Canadian contingent that found fame in the United States.

All have left an undeniable mark on the rock' n roll

landscape. Not bad for Crazy Canucks, eh?

With 30 million records sold, countless tours in the United

States and a rock anthem under his belt - "Sugar, Sugar"

was recently inducted into the Rock'n Roll Hall of Fame -

Andy Kim has returned.

While Toronto and New York have welcomed him back, his

native Montreal has ironically remained cool to his

comeback. Far from keeping Andy Kim down, he will force

people to notice him as he did when Jeff Barry discovered in

him over 35 years ago.

This brings us back to the concert. In a sleek black suit, Kim

kicked off the evening with a rousing rendition of "Rock me

Gently" - a song that brought him a Juno Award in 1974.

From that point forward, the tone and mood of the night were

set. If there were any among the 550 plus people in

attendance who were skeptical, he quickly made them a

believer.

This set the stage for an impressive list of Canadian artists

to showcase their music. The group included Esthero,

Hayden Neale of Jacksoul, Shaye, The Hidden Cameras,

Andy Stochansky, Danny Michel, Blair Packham and Jully

Black.

Ron Sexsmith who performed and co-wrote "What Ever

Happened to Christmas" alongside Kim also treated fans to

a special guest appearance.

There was nothing formulaic to the evening. This much was

clear as musicians moved on and off the stage with a flair of

what I would call slight unprepared coolness. Whatever it

was, when the music started, each of them brought with

them a unique element to the concert. It was a magical night

that reminded us how Canadian music continues to thrive

and evolve.

Above all, for 2 1/2 hours, many of Canada's musicians,

who were barely in existence when Andy Kim began writing

music, had a chance to perform with a rock legend. It had to

be gratifying for Andy Kim - who influenced so many

musicians - as he watched people of another generation

connect to his music. Not only that, all are self-professed

fans.

Of course, all good things must come to an end, and what

better way to end the night than with "Sugar, Sugar?" With

everyone on stage performing it in a jam session, it was

reminiscent of The Band's Last Waltz or whenever great

musicians congregate to perform a colleague's song. It was

an awesome spectacle that was free of any tackiness that

can dangerously make such things ghastly to watch.

As I listened, I observed a young punker pass by and look at the stage. She turned and walked away, though not before

giving her opinion to no one in particular, 'This is so cool.' I

thought two things to myself after hearing this. This is

exactly how Tony Bennett revived his career when he

connected to a crowd outside his genre. Indeed, Andy Kim

had the aura of a rock'n roll crooner.

The second thing that came to mind, and probably more

important in the larger scheme of things, is that Andy Kim

belonged. He did not seem displaced artistically or

technically with this group of outstanding musicians. This, in

my mind, is the greatest accomplishment of the night. Well,

that and the fact that proceeds went to charity.

"Sugar, Sugar" was the perfect climax for an excellent show.

Or was it? Not wanting to call it a night, the performers

debated with which song they should continue? They settled

on "Rock me Gently", the song that began the whole affair.

This was, for those who pay attention to such things,

symbolic of Andy Kim's career, which has come full circle as

he connected with a whole new generation of musicians. If

anything, he can watch with pride the vibrancy and brilliance

of Canadian music he helped spawn.

Anyhow, check out his site - which includes his personal

diary - and you may even be moved to purchase some of

his music. His impressive latest EP 'I Forgot to Mention'

includes contribution from Ed Robertson of the Barenaked

Ladies, Timothy B. Schmidt of The Eagles and Kenny

Aronoff among others.

Rome Centre - The Home of Christianity

For centuries, Rome has been the site for pilgrimages. From the doorway of many a hotel, Rome centre has been a starting place for providing Christians with a way to discover, or rediscover, the history and reality of the Catholic Church.

Early Christian

Abandon your hotel - Rome centre is the start of your journey to the past, when Christianity was at its earliest stages. The Catacombs are cemeteries constructed underground by ancient specialists- the fossores or gravediggers. They carved the walls of dirt and stone creating gallery after gallery for the dead.

The most famous catacombs date from the 2nd century. To reach them, you will have to travel beyond your hotel in Rome centre, along the former consular roads to the former suburbs of their time. Currently, you can visit any or all five of the following Catacombs:

1. The catacombs of St. Agnes, Via Nomentana

2. The catacombs of Priscilla, via Salaria

3. The catacombs of Domitilla, via delle Sette Chiese

4. The catacombs of St. Sebastian, via Appia Antica

5. The catacombs of St. Callixtus, Via Appia Antica

While it may seem slightly ghoulish to visit the Catacombs, it does give you a chance understand early death and burial customs - especially noting the funerary paintings on the walls.

From Temples to Churches

The survival of many an ancient pagan Roman temple has depended on its conversion into a Christian Church. You can find examples throughout the city where the early religious buildings were taken over by the newer form of religion. Put on comfortable shoes, even though you may be taking a taxi, and leave behind your hotel. Rome centre is a significant part of this history.

Your expedition should firstly take you to the Forum. Here stands the former Temple of Romulus. It became the vestibule of the Church of Santi Cosma e Damiano sometime in the 6th century. This semi-circular brick temple is topped by a cupola with other points of interest being the concave porch and two original heavy, bronze doors. The church also occupies a former hall of Vespasian's Forum of Peace. Visit to see the 18th century carved figures making up the Nativity scene.

The Pantheon was designed by Emperor Hadrian to celebrate the pantheon - the collective name of the Roman Gods. Its noted feature was its magnificent dome. Hollow decorative coffering helped to decrease the overall weight of the dome. This made the entire structure more stable with the help of the structurally embedded brick arches. The dome features an oculus - an eye or hole in the centre. It is the only source of light to this remarkable and beautiful building. Of particular beauty is the marble floor with its restored Roman pattern.

Many people come here to pay homage to the artist, Raphael who is entombed within, some to admire the architecture, and others to see the tombs of Italy's former kings.

Santa Nicola in Carcere is a small medieval church in the Campo de' Fiore. It stands on the sites of three Roman temples: Juno, Spes and Janus. Inside, several columns are integrated into the walls and testify as to the origins of this church. The Roman columns and an early bell tower are points of interest.

San Clemente, with architectural elements from the 4th century, is one of the earliest Christian churches. Beneath it, however, lie the ruins of several ancient Roman buildings, including a temple dedicated to the all-male cult of Mithras. Several frescoes illustrating his life are of interest.

Rome also has many early Christian churches. Not all were built on the foundations of pagan temples. Among them are Santa Pudenziana, with its extraordinary 4th century mosaic, and San Cecilia in Trastevere,with an altar canopy by Arnolfo di Cambio. Beneath San Cecilia is another Roman ruin worth visiting - the ruins, not of a temple, but of a Roman tannery.

All these historic sights are well within easy reach of your hotel - Rome centre and her history await!

Aquarius Traits and Characteristics

Aquarius, the 11th sign of the zodiac, is an air sign. It rules 'the cosmic waters', meaning outer space, rays, beams, wavelengths, and frequencies. Aquarius is the eccentric of the zodiac, insofar as it takes it's own a-centric, quirky view, which tends to run counter to mass thinking. It likes niche groups of like-minded others, or organizations and forums comprised of kindred spirits. It loves the spoken or written word, and enjoys debate and bouncing fascinating ideas off others.

Aquarius rules the ankles, and the micro-circulation, as well as research, electricity, science, aviation, astronomy, astrology, and UFOs. It has a correspondence with Angels and off-planet intelligence, and it tends to be ambivalent about gender. The Aquarian personality is highly opinionated, holds strong views, and is generally geared to reformist, unconventional, humanitarian activities.

Its ruling planet, Uranus - which is about transforming the status quo - rules aluminium, uranium and the parasympathetic nervous system. As we enter the Age of Aquarius, there's a lot of talk about resonating with the 'vibe' of various kinds, and with technologies and inventions which utilize rays, beams, remote control, TV, radio, computers, cell phones, and so on. Under Aquarius, the mental sign, we are seeing the proliferation of blogging and sharing online, as well as group gatherings, who champion renewable, sustainable energies, alternative type lifestyles and an interest in healing using light, sound, colour, smell - in other words vibrational therapies.

Aquarians are good in a career where they can experiment and observe, where they can shift others into a new realization, or where they gather with people for a joint cause. Aquarian energy, at it's best, is altruistic and idealistic, it works hard at raising social awareness and ushering in change. It is non-hierarchical, and loves the buzz of risk and breaking taboos, and the word 'freedom'.
